Federal records show the trucking company involved in the I-5 bridge collapse in Skagit County north of Seattle has a safety record that’s better than most.

You could look at it this way: 97 percent of other trucking companies have a worse record on the road. That said, a March 2013 incident report shows one of their drivers in Washington state was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device, unsafe driving.
Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are on the scene of the bridge failure. The driver was hauling an oversized piece of oil rig equipment when it struck the bridge superstructure.
It’s possible the state could demand the truck company’s insurance pay for some or all of the damages – now pegged at $15 million.
