Albany Teen Kept Meticulous Notes On High School Bomb Plot

Benton County District Attorney

A judge in Benton County, Ore. has set bail at $2 million for a 17-year-old accused of plotting to bomb West Albany High School. The student -- Grant Acord -- appeared in court on a video link to face 19 counts. They include attempted aggravated murder and illegal manufacture and possession of bombs and weapons.

Acord kept meticulous details of his plans in notebooks and sort of outlined step by step what he was going to allegedly do with these weapons. He was going come to the school grounds, burst in and toss around some napalm bombs that he had made, some pipe bombs and just generally wreak havoc and then possibly he was going to take his own life as police officers approached him.

The accused student’s mother, Marianne Fox, appeared in court but did not speak. She released a statement earlier saying her son suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder brought on by a strep infection. It’s a condition known by its acronym, P.A.N.D.A.S.

In an affidavit, prosecutors say police got a tip from a student that Acord had made threats to build a bomb with the intention of blowing up the school. Police conducted a search of Acord’s mother’s home and found six homemade bombs in a hidden compartment of Acord’s bedroom.

It allegedly contained:

• Two pipe bombs made of galvanized pipe and filled with gunpowder
• Two Molotov cocktails, glass bottles filled with a flammable liquid
• At least two "Draino bombs," plastic bottles filled with acid attached to some aluminum foil that could cause a chemical reaction when mixed together.

The affidavit also says Acord’s attack plan also included this detail: "Cooly state: 'the Russian grim reaper is here.'" This is a reference to the 2003 movie Bad Boys 2. In the film, a Russian mafia boss named Alexie says this during a climactic scene.
