New Year Brings New License Plate Options, Replacement Rule In Washington

Washington State Dept. of LIcensing

If you live in Washington state and you like your license plates, starting January 1, you’ll get to keep them.

The New Year will also bring a couple of new options for their “special design plates.” New for 2015, Washington’s Department of Licensing will offer a pink-hued breast cancer awareness license plate. It features a pink ribbon with the tag line “Early Detection Saves Lives.” The proceeds will go to the Washington Department of Health.

Seattle University will get a plate with red and black letters to match the school’s colors. Proceeds will support university scholarships.

If you want a specialty plate you might consider ordering before the year is out. Starting January 1, the cost goes up $5.

If you’re happy with the plates you already have, then you’re in luck. As you ring in the New Year, the Department of Licensing rings out the old rule that you have to get new plates every seven years.
