Oregon Governor Praises Supreme Court's Marriage Decision

Oregon Governor Kate Brown praised Friday's U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized gay marriage.

Oregon Governor Kate Brown praised Friday’s U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized gay marriage in a video statement.

"While the Supreme Court has upheld the union of marriage, our work is not done,” the governor said. “Let us remember that we still must strive to end discrimination and hate so that all people can live with dignity."

Same-sex marriage has been legal since a federal judge's ruling in May of 2014. Oregon's Constitution still defines marriage as between one man and one woman. While that restriction is no longer valid, the section can only be removed by Oregon voters.
