Troy Kelley’s National Guard Status Unaffected By Federal Probe

Washington Legislature
Washington State Auditor Troy Kelley is a lieutenant colonel in the Washington Army National Guard

According to a spokeswoman with the Washington Military Department, an ongoing federal probe has not affected Washington State Auditor Troy Kelley’s status as a lieutenant colonel in the National Guard.

As a judge advocate general in the Washington Army National Guard, Kelley mentors and trains military defense attorneys. Prior to joining the Guard in 2010, Kelley was an Army reservist.

Since becoming state Auditor in 2013, Kelley has gone to South Korea for 12-day assignments. On those deployments, he provided administrative law expertise to the Commander of U.S. forces in Korea.

The Washington Military Department said Kelley does have a security clearance but will not disclose what level it is. A spokeswoman said Kelley was under no obligation to inform his commanders of the federal inquiry into his past business practices.

She added that until and unless Kelley is charged with a crime, his status with the Guard remains unchanged.
