Northwest drivers plan to hit the roads this holiday weekend despite paying some of the highest gas prices in the nation according to AAA.

Spokeswoman Marie Dodds said their surveys are predicting the highest level of Labor Day travelers since 2008. She added that comes as Oregon and Washington drivers are paying an average of $3.88 for a gallon of unleaded.

"Nobody likes high gas prices, believe me. But this is not a new thing,” Dodds said. “We've gotten used to gas prices being in the $3.80, $3.90 range. And while nobody likes it, it doesn't mean that they're going to alter plans because of it."

Idaho drivers will have it a little easier with an average of $3.76 per gallon. But that's still above the national average of $3.44.

Dodds said prices should moderate a bit next month as the summer driving season comes to an end.
