File photo. Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg, Oregon, received 10 patients in the wake of Thursday's shooting at Umpqua Community College.

Until Thursday, Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg, Oregon, had only drilled for a mass casualty event. Then a gunman opened fire at Umpqua Community College.

Mercy Medical Chief Medical Officer Jason Gray said the hospital received 10 patients.

"Three of which were transferred to a higher level of care. Two were treated and released directly from the emergency department. One was deceased in the emergency room. And four went to surgery,” Gray said. “Of those four, one was discharged yesterday three remain here at Mercy Medical Center: two in stable condition and one in stable-critical condition."

Gray called the event tragic. But he said even retired doctors came in to volunteer in case they were needed. And hospitals around the country sent pizzas to Mercy Medical.
